Jazz has been said to the rhythm of human life thru out the years. This particular kind of music has been the base ground for the most astonishing musical developments in history. If we would search for the roots of many music styles of our days, we would find that Jazz is the most important, and in some cases the only root we can find.
Jazz was born around 1895 in New Orleans, deep in the African American magical and soulful culture of the town; and it was influenced by, tribal drums, the development of gospel, ragtime or the blues. The origin of the word “jazz” has been traced back to an ordinary term used for by some to describe sexual acts, and some of it’s early sounds associated with whore houses and some other illegal entertainment night clubs.
Thru out the years what made Jazz such a unique musical expression, was the use of improvisation. While other kinds of music had guidelines and composition, Jazz grew to be considered a musical art form, free thoughts transformed into a wild spontaneous but extremely melodic and soulful expression.
Because of all the respect we have for the music and it’s artists, we wont define jazz into a simple text, it would be impossible, and most important because for those go play, jazz should stay undefined. Make the most of it, enjoy, and feel the music. “If you gotta ask, you’ll never know” Louis Armstrong.
